From the Red Square of Moscow
To Tiananmen Square of Beijing
Roars the spirit of glasnost,
And the voice of the people sings.

Tear the walls and the labels down,
Let the spirit of freedom in!
In Johannesburg and Cape Town!
In Managua and Berlin!

Let the blood of the people flow,
Let the tears of the people rain,
Let the tyrants and armies go,
Let the spirit of freedom reign!

Let religions like phantoms vanish
In the boundless universe,
Let the popes and czars be banished,
Let the titles and ranks disperse!

Let the millionaires go broke,
Let the stock market plunge in shame,
Let their money go up in smoke,
Let their real estate burn in flames!

Let the spirit of freedom roar,
Let the dogmas and churches fall,
Let the hearts of the people soar--
Let them rise to the freedom’s call!
