The Evening Spreads Itself Upon the Streets
The evening spreads itself upon the streets,
As people stroll alone or in pairs,
While I imagine that some day we'll meet
Just like that couple, kissing over there.

I'll say: "Hello, darling, what's the rush?"
And you'll say: "You're nuts, I've got to go!"
Then I'll tell you something till you blush
And wonder how did I ever know.

I'll look at you and say: "It had to be!
Just look at all those strangers over there--
They are looking at us both--wild and free--
Admiring your curves and lovely hair."

We'll be walking hand in hand, my love,
Without any special destination,
Enjoying just the starry sky above
In gentle bliss of night's intoxication.

Yes, I'd dream our meeting would come true,
But I just see these strangers come and go,
And all I have are memories of you,
Of our love so many years ago.

The evening spreads itself upon the streets,
As people stroll alone or in pairs,
While I imagine that some day we'll meet
Just like that couple, kissing over there.
